Why Florida Is So Scary
Florida is the setting for many mystery novels, detective novels and crime novels.
It turns out it's also a particularly good place to set a horror novel.
Author Brian Bandell draws on the "creepiness from the swamp" that is Florida in his new book, Mute.
"Florida is one of those places where it looks nice in a postcard , but when you get there there tends to be a lot of problems that happen…. there’s just this creepiness and it’s almost like we’ve come here and populated it, but we’re on a swamp and you haven’t really gotten rid of the creepiness of the swamp. And all those little critters – those mosquitoes and those ‘gators and those snakes, they kinda want to take their land back," Bandell says.
Hear why he and other other writers think Florida can be such a frightening place. Then settle in as Bandell reads you to shriek.
And you can see Bandell read from Mute at the West Regional Broward County Library in Plantation on Tuesday, November 13th from 2:00PM – 3:30PM. (8601 W. Broward Boulevard – 954-382-5860)
